The 8,500-acre Cook Forest State Park lies in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania. Once called the “Black Forest,” the area is famous for its stands of old growth forest. Cook Forest’s “Forest Cathedral” of towering white pines and hemlocks is a National Natural Landmark. – Pennsylvania Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources

Sleigh Rides, sledding (bring tubes and sleds), ice skating (some skates available), and a chili cook-off are all planned, among other activities, at Snowman in the Forest Day. This event is set to take place this Saturday, at Cook Forest State Park. Guided interpretive hikes within the old growth forest on Cook Trail are scheduled for 12 pm -1:00 pm and 1:00 pm -2:00 pm. Snowshoes are recommended but not required. K-9 Rescue and Wildlife presentations will also be featured at Snowman in the Forest. Snowman in the Forest will take place at the Cook Forest State Park ice skating pond. The ice skating pond is located about a mile upriver from the Park Office, in Cooksburg, along River Road.

There will be several family friendly activities at the event and Smokey the Bear will be there to partake in the festivities. Some of the family friendly activities include face painting, indoor games, and prize giveaways. Hot dogs, kraut dogs, and chili dogs will be served for all vistors.  Hot chocolate, coffee, and a warming hut will also be available.

Of course there will also be plenty of snowman building!
